High-frequency Words (come, down, your, way, play) Have students open their Activity Book to page 39 and read sentences together. Show students high-frequency words one by one and circle the same word in their Activity Book. *Page 40 is the homework assignment. Let’s get started with today’s lesson in your Activity Book. Open your Activity Book to page 39. What do you see? We see many words and sentences. Let’s read the sentences together. Very nice! Now, I’ll show you a word. Can you read this word? It is ‘come’. Can you find the word ‘come’ in your book? Circle around the word. Are you done? What word did you circle? (come) Very good! ….etc. Choral Reading Read the story together. I think you can read the story book very well. Let’s read the book together. I’ll give this microphone to Julie. When I turn the page, pass the mike to the person next to you. Are you ready? Good! Show Me Your Musical Instrument Make sure each student has a die. Play the CD track No. 5 and pause before the missing word. Have students guess what musical instrument will come and turn their die so the picture of it is on top. Have students enjoy music and tap the picture on top of the die. You did a great job! This time, let’s do a very interesting listening activity. Does everyone have a die? Good! I’ll play the CD and then I’ll stop the CD. Guess what musical instrument it is and turn your die so the picture of it is on top. Can you do it? Great! Listen carefully. …… What musical instrument is next? (violin) Are you sure? Turn your die so the picture of the violin is on top. When you hear the verse, tap on the musical instrument picture. Keep listening to the CD. …….etc. I Am the Music Man 17

student book colored pencils pencils (to write the words) glue musical instrument pictures that are prepared in the TG. (copy and cut out enough pictures for your students in advance) Make a Student Book Writing student book Retell the story Make a Student Book Make sure each student has a student book. Ask students to pick a card with a musical instrument. Ask students one by one what card they have. Write the student’s name on the white board. Next to their name write the instrument they chose, dividing the word into two parts. Example: Susan cym bals Have students turn to the last 3 blank pages of their books and paste the picture with a musical instrument on the first area. Have students write the two word parts in the second and third areas. Then, have students trace the word, play in the sentences and fill in the blank with the name of the musical instrument they picked. Did you enjoy the listening activity? Great! Now, we are going to make our own book. Does everyone have a student book like this? Good! Let’s take turns choosing a card with a musical instrument. Julie, what do you have? (cymbals) Good! Tony, What do you have? (flute)……etc. Open your book to this page. (Show students using a student book) OK, everyone. Paste the picture on the first area and color it. Are you done? Now, write the words on the second and on the third areas. Wow, you did a great job! Let’s trace the word, ‘play’ in the sentences and fill in the blank with the name of the musical instrument you chose. Are you finished? Very nice! This time, we are going to use the student’s book to retell the story. Who wants to go first? Thank you, Julie. Come to the front and try retelling the story. ….. What musical instrument did you choose for writing? (cymbals) Alright, Julie. Retell the story about cymbals and sing the verse. Wonderful! Who wants to go next? ….etc. Retell the Story Give each student the opportunity to come to the front of the class to retell the story. When the student comes to the front and retells the story using the last pages, have him/her sing the verse. Have students sing and dance together. Let’s sing and dance together, this time. a. If you didn’t finish the Activity Book, tell students to complete it for homework. b. Give students an assignment of retelling the story with the student book one more time. c.
