COURSE GOALS - 수업 목표 Two key goals: The first is to introduce students to the basics of understanding, planning, and writing English paragraphs. The second aim is to develop students reading skills such as scanning, analyzing, reading aloud. Each unit also has specific grammatical and stylistic learning objectives.

Assignments 20% = 7 x 2% Writing + 6 x 1% Reading ASSESSMENT - 평가 설명 A. Midterm/ 중간고사 = 25% (Written & Spoken/ 필기시험&구두시험) 4/20 B. Final/ 기말고사 = 35% (Written & Spoken/ 필기시험&구두시험) 6/15 C. Assignments/ 숙제 = 20% (Written/ 필기 숙제) D. Attendance/ 출석 = 5% 결석/ 지각하면 벌점(마이너스점수)있어요! E. Another Work/ 기타 = 15% Assignments 20% = 7 x 2% Writing + 6 x 1% Reading Another Work 15% = Participation 10% + Quiz 5%

GRADING CURVE - 서경의 상대평가 All classes are grade curved.(모든수업의 점수는 상대평가입니다) Your professor cannot change this. (교수도 상대평가점수를 바꿀수없어요) Your professor does not “give” you a grade, you “earn” your grade. (교수가 점수를 여러분에게 주는것이 아닙니다. 여러분이 얻는것입니다.) Maximum A+/ A0 = 30% Maximum A+/ A0 + B+/ B0 = 70% Therefore a minimum of 30% will get C+ or lower. E.g. Class = 24 students: 30% x A+/A0 = 7 70% x A+/ A0 + B+/ B0 = 16 Changing 1 student’s grade ‘up’ means changing other student’s grade ‘down’.

RULES & EXPECTATIONS - 규칙 Class starts at 10.30am, please be on time. (수업은 10시30분이여요.지각하지마세요) Mistakes are nothing to be ashamed of. (실수하는것을 두려워하지마세요) Help each other, it helps you learn. (서로도우면, 여러분이 배우는데 도움이 됩니다) If you will be late/ absent kakaotalk/ text your professor BEFORE class (basic manners): 010-8430-5205 (만약 늣거나, 결석을 한다면, 수업전에 받드시 문자로 알려주세요) 10.35-10.45 = late (-0.15), After 10.45 = Absent (-0.5) 7 absences = automatic “F”, the professor can NOT help. (7번결석이면 자동 F입니다. 이것은 교수의 권한이 아닙니다. 바꿀수없는 중요한 규칙입니다) Always bring your books, notepad, pens & cell-phone. No textbooks = Absent. (항상 교재, 노트, 필기도구와 휴대폰을 가지고다니세요. 만약 배울교재가 없다면 결석과 같습니다. 교재는 배움에 아주 중요합니다.)
