1 √ I have found the Korean class to be very helpful. Prior to the class I had taught myself the alphabet and several phrases. After the first week I was reading signs (no comprehension) and picking up words in overheard conversations. After several weeks I can confidently visit the market or order food. The class provided a functional basic knowledge of the Korean language. I am so glad I took the time to learn. 한국어 교육이 많은 도움이 되었으며, 일주일 후부터 글자의 뜻은 이해하지 못하지 만 읽고 맞출 수 있었다. 몇 주 후부터는 자신 있게 음식을 주문하거나 슈퍼에 갈 수 있었다. 한국어에 대한 기능적인 기본 지식을 배웠으며 한국어를 배울 수 있는 시간 을 갖게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각한다. 2 Class was very useful, and also very enjoyable. I have an even greater respect for those that can speak more than one language!! Learning the alphabet alone has made life a lot easier. I still believe I have a lot of vocabulary to learn and my grommet needs work, but it has been a good starting place. At times I have enjoyed the flash cards and also struggled with them too but both have improved my understanding. I have understood lots but would say at time I needed the English words translations written on the board. Geum sook was very patient with our many questions and our pronunciation. She has a good understanding of her language and when she related it to English grammar we can understand it well. 한국문화교실은 매우 유익한 시간이었고, 여러 언어를 구사하는 사람들에 대하여 무한한 존경심을 갖게 되었다. 다양한 어휘나 문법을 더 배워야 하지만 단어만을 익히는 것도 생활하는데 많은 도움이 되었고, 나에게 한국문화교실은 제주에 서 생활하는데 많은 도움을 준 곳이다. 가끔은 단어암기용 카드를 즐기면서 단어를 익혔고, 수업시간에는 이해하기 쉬운 부분도 있었지만 영어로 설명이 필요 한 부분도 상당히 많았다. 선생님은 우리들의 발음과 질문에도 차분히 대답하고 반복해서 가르쳐주었으며 또한 그녀가 구사하는 언어에 대해 상당한 지식을 갖고 있어서 영문법에 한글을 적용하여 설명하면 쉽게 이해할 수 있었다. 3 As to the Korean lessons, the opportunity to learn the language has been much appreciated. The class is very small – an advantage to those of us who can attend. Many more would like that opportunity, I am sure, but the problem is that very few of the foreign community are free during the day to take part. I very much doubt that arranging lessons at different times will see an increase in attendance, because those who cannot attend during their working day, may start with good intentions but long working days, produce tiredness, or a desire to use free time to socialize with friends, or to be with their families in the evenings. My first three months in this southern outpost have confirmed for me what I already knew about the Korean people: they are hard working, friendly and very welcoming to outsiders. 한국어를 접할 기회를 갖게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각하며, 소수가 참여하는 수업이라 나에게는 더할 나위 없이 좋은 시간이었다. 외국인의 참여를 높이기 위하여 다양한 시간에 수업을 진행하면 어떨까라는 생 각을 가져 본다. 나는 3 개월 여간의 영어교육도시 생활에서 한국인들이 매우 부지런하고, 친절하며 외국인들에게 따뜻 하다는 것을 다시 한번 깨달았다.
