IBM Ultrium Tape Library 3583은 중간 규모의 데이터 센터 및 네트웍 스토리지 환경을 위한 용량 (확장 성),성능 및 안정성을 제공하는 통합 백업을 위한 테이프 솔루션입니다. IBM 3583은 저렴한 투자 비용 대비 뛰어난 효율성을 자랑하는 2Gbps Native Fibre channel 연결 능력과 업계 최고 성능을 지닌 IBM LTO Ultrium 드라이브를 6개까지 지원합니다. 또한 LTO3583은 신속한 미디어 검색과 저장을 위한 바코드 판독기와 제품 전면의 LCD 디스플이를 통하여 라이브러리 상태를 확인하고 제어 할 수 있는 기능을 제공합니다. As you know, the IBM Ultrium 3 drive and cartridge technology offers significant enhancements over its predecessor including doubling the capacity and more than doubling the sustained data rate. The IBM Ultrium 3 tape drive also supports read of Ultrium 1 cartridges at the same 100 GB native capacity and with improved performance. The Ultrium 3 cartridge can be identified by it's unique cartridge color and labels. The Ultrium 3 drive can be identified by its labels and its SCSI Inquiry string. Control Path Fail over 기능은 IBM Tape Library 만이 제공하는 안정화 솔루션으로 타사의 Library들이 하나의 control path만을 제공함에 따라 연결된 Host adapter나 path controller에 생긴 장애가 library 전체의 장애가 되는 것을 막아줍니다. SAN은 물론 direct attach된 서버에서도 구성이 가능합니다.

Data Path Failover 기능은 IBM Tape Library 만이 제공하는 안정화 솔루션으로 서버와 Drive 간에 SAN을 이용한 multi-path 구성으로 되어있을 때, 사용 중인 path 장애 발생시 자동으로 failover를 수행해주는 기능입니다. Load Balancing 기능은 drive open시 자동으로 현재 가장 사용을 덜하고 있는 HBA를 선택하여 path를 할당하게 해주는 기능입니다. 역시 SAN 환경에서 가능한 기능입니다.
