분사구문 A → 분사가 이끄는 구를 분사구문이라고 하며, 시간, 조건, 이유, 양보, 동시동 작 등의 뜻을 나타낸다. 분사구문은 「접속사 + 주어 + 동사」로 이루어진 부사절을 「동사원형 +-ing ~ 」 형태의 부사구로 줄인 것이다. 이때 생략되 는 접속사에 따라 뜻이 달라진다. ex) Hearing the news(= When he heard the news), he dropped down on the floor from shock. ( 그 소식을 들었을 때, 그는 충격으로 바닥에 주저앉았다.) ex) Taking this train(= If you take this train), you'll get to Busan at 1 p.m. ( 이 기차를 탄다면, 너는 오후 1 시에 부산에 도착할 거야.)

→ 분사구문의 뜻을 명확히 하기 위해 접속사를 생략하지 않기도 한다. ex) Being tired(= Because she was tired), she stayed home all day. ( 피곤했기 때문에, 그녀는 하루 종일 집에 있었다.) ex) Being busy(= Though she is busy), Amy is always willing to help me. ( 바쁠지라도, Amy 는 항상 기꺼이 나를 도와주려 한다.) ex) Looking at me(= As she was looking at me), she smiled brightly. ( 나를 바라보면서, 그녀는 환하게 미소를 지었다.) ex) After talking to my dad, I felt much better. 강조용법 A → It is 〔 was 〕 ~ that... 강조 구문은 ‘~’ 자리에 주어, 목적어, 부사 ( 구 ) 등 을 넣어 ‘… 은 바로 ~ 이다〔였다〕 ’ 라고 그 내용을 강조한다. ex) Meagan bought a new cell phone yesterday. (Meagan 은 어제 새 휴대 전화를 샀다.) It was Meagan that bought a new cell phone yesterday. It was a new cell phone that Meagan bought yesterday. It was yesterday that Meagan bought a new cell phone.

강조용법 A ex) It was Mike that 〔 who 〕 broke your glasses. ( 너의 안경을 깨뜨린 것은 바로 Mike 였다.) It was some pictures that 〔 which 〕 she sent to me in Africa. ( 그녀가 아프리카에서 나에게 보낸 것은 바로 몇 장의 사진이었다.) It was this morning that 〔 when 〕 I heard the sad news. ( 내가 그 슬픈 소식을 들은 것은 바로 오늘 아침이었다.) → 강조하는 대상에 따라 that 대신 who, which, when, where 등을 쓸 수 있다.
