“Grammar to Explain” 강조하고 싶은 어구를 it is [was]와 that사이에 위치시킨다. Tom broke the vase in his room yesterday. [인물 강조] It was Tom that [who] broke the vase in that room yesterday. [사물 강조] It was the vase that [which] Tom broke in that room yesterday. [장소 강조] It was in that room that [when] Tom broke the vase yesterday. [시간 강조] It was yesterday that [who] Tom broke the vase in that room. 가주어 It ∼ 진주어 that절과의 차이점 : 강조구문은 It is [was]와 that을 문장에서 빼도 성립한다. (Tom broke the vase in that room yesterday / The vase Tom broke in that room yesterday <목적어 강조 문두 위치> / In that room Tom broke the vase yesterday / Yesterday Tom broke the vase in that room). It is wrong that he was a woman(그가 여자였다는 말은 틀렸다)에서 It is와 that을 빼면 틀린 문장 Wrong he was a woman이 나온다. (It is) No wonder (that) he was a woman(그가 여자이었다는 것이 놀랄 일은 아니다)는 가능하나, 이도 엄밀히 말해서 구어체(spoken English)이다.
