3 국제 해사국이란? 1981년 창설, 영국 런던에 본부 국제 상업회의소 산하의 특별기관(specialized division of the ICC) 국제 해상 무역과 해상 운송에 관계된 모든 종류의 범죄행위로부터 선박과 선원을 보호하는 것을 목적으로 창설 endorsed by the UN’s IMO (International Maritime Organization) observer status with Interpol

[동아일보] 12일 인도네시아와 말레이시아의 접경 해역인 말라카 해협. 기관총과 로켓포로 무장한 해적 40여 명이 인도네시아 유조선을 습격했다. …..중략….. ▽기지개 펴는 해적 = 국제 해사국(IMB) 에 따르면 전 세계에서 해적의 공격은 2001년 335건에서 2003년 445건으로 늘었다. 지난해에는 인도네시아와 말레이시아가 해상 순찰을 강화한 덕분에 325건으로 줄어들었다. [한겨레] 해적 공격 상반기 30명 사망 – 국제 해사국(IMB) “지난해 두 배” 해적 소탕작전 등 근절 노력에도 불구하고 올 상반기 동안 해적들의 공격으로 전세계적으로 30명의 선원들이 목숨을 잃었다고 런던에 본부를 둔 국제 해사국의 통계를 빌려 26일 보도했다. 국제 해사국은 지난해 같은 기간의 16명 사망에 비해 거의 두배나 피해가 늘었다며, 1993년 이후 최대 희생자 수라고 밝혔다. 국제해사국은 또 올 상반기 중 해적들의 범죄는 182건으로 지난해 같은 기간 234건에 줄어들었다며 올 상반기 중 50건의 해적범죄가 발생한 인도네시아 해역이 가장 위험한 해역이라고 밝혔다.
