102쪽의 1. Lizards are cold-blooded animals, and it is commonly believed that they lie in the sun to warm themselves up. However, a group of scientists thought that lizards may do it to get more vitamin D, too. According to them, like most animals, lizards’ skin has the ability to produce vitamin D when exposed to UV radiation. The scientists carried out an experiment, and their theory turned out to be correct. They separated lizards into two groups and fed one group a diet high in vitamin D. Then they observed the lizards’ behavior. The lizards (that were not fed the vitamin D diet) spent much more time in the sun, while the other group preferred the shade.
