After a moment he lifted his head. Footsteps were approaching slowly. He wondered whether the approaching man could be crippled. 6 1.Tips of Reading Comprehension 묘사 (description) ( ⇒ 하나의 그림 / 사진 / 이미지 ) - 대상의 형태와 색채 ( 시각 ), 감촉 ( 촉각 ), 향기 ( 후각 ), 소리 ( 청각 ), 맛 ( 미각 ) 등을 필자가 관측한 객관적 상태나 관찰한 결과에 대한 필자의 심리적 느낌 을 생생한 언어로 그림을 그리듯 표현함으로써 글을 전개하는 방식이다. - 눈앞에 그림을 그리듯, 묘사되고 있는 대상, 풍경 등을 머릿속으로 상상하 며 글을 읽어 내려간다. - 시간과 배경, 심리 묘사를 위해 필자가 사용한 어휘들이 주는 공통적인 느 낌으로부터 단락의 전체적인 분위기를 추론할 수 있다.

He came in with his boots covered with mud. For a moment he sat very still, with his pipe clenched in his hand. He left the office with his wallet on the desk.

Grammar points 형용사는 명사 앞에만 붙는다 ? - 명사를 수식하는 형용사는 a tall boy 처럼 명사의 앞에서 위치하는 것이 보통이지만, 다음과 같은 경우는 명사 뒤에 위치한다. 1)–body, -one, -thing 으로 끝나는 복합명사를 수식하는 경우 ex) Anybody younger would have done better. ex) I like someone young ex) There is something peculiar about him. ex) I have nothing particular to say. 2) 서술적으로 쓰이는 형용사  impossible, alive, awake, available 등 ex) How many black people alive today were slaves?

13 2. Grammar points 3) 관계대명사 + be 가 생략된 구조로 볼 수 있는 경우 이때 보통은 형용사 뒤에 수식어가 붙는다. ex) like a black hole (which is) ready to suck him in. I got the letter (which was) written in English.
