Chap. 15 God's Continuing Work: Providence ( 하나님의 지속적 사역 : 섭리 )

Definition of Providence ( 정의 ) Etymology ( 어원 ) The word "providence" comes from Latin "providere" which means to foresee. 라틴어 providere ( 예시 ) 에서 파생. Definition ( 정의 ) Providence is the continuing action of God by which he preserves in existence the creation which he has brought into being, and guides it to his intended purposes for it. 하나님께서 자신이 창조하신 우주만물을 보존하실 뿐 아니라 창조의 목적을 향해서 인도하시는 사역을 말한다.

Importance of the Doctrine of Providence ( 중요성 ) (1) Assurance that God is present and active in our lives. 하나님은 살아계셔서 우리의 삶 가운데 역사하고 계신다는 확신을 주기 때문이다. (2) Knowing that things do not happen by chance. 세상만사 우연히 일어나는 일은 없다는 것을 알게 하기 때문이다. (3) Knowing that God hears our prayer and understands the circumstances that surround us. 하나님은 우리의 기도를 들으시고 우리가 처해있는 상황을 알고 계신다는 확신을 주기 때문이다.

2 Dimensions of Providence ( 섭리의 두 가지 측면 ) Preservation 보존 God's maintaining his creation in existence. It involves God's protection of the creation ( 만물을 보호 ) and his provision for the needs of the creation ( 만물의 필요를 공급 ). Government 다스리심, 통치.

Government 통치 All the events in the universe fulfil his plans. The whole of reality and the course of history are purposively directed to the ends that God has in mind. It is the actual execution, within time, of his plans devised in eternity. 우주에 일어나는 모든 사건은 하나님의 계획을 성취한다. 존재하는 모든 것과 역사의 진행은 하나님이 의도하신 목적으로 향하고 있다. 이는 영원한 하나님의 계획대로 실제로 시간 속에서 행해지는 것이다.

Biblical Teaching on Preservation 섭리의 성경적 근거 (1) Of Creation as a whole 우주만물에 대한 섭리하심 ( 느 9:6; 골 1:17; 히 1:3; 시 104). (2) Of the nation Israel 국가 이스라엘에 대한 섭리하심 : 요셉, 출애굽, 광야의 양식, 다니엘, 고레스왕 …. (3) Of His people 자기 백성에 대한 섭리하심 ( 마 6:26)

The Theological Dimensions of Preservation 섭리의 3 가지 신학적 측면

(1) The inseparability of God's children from his love and keeping. 일단 하나님의 백성이 되면 어느 누구도 하나님의 사랑과 보호의 손길에서 우리를 분리할 수 없다 ( 요 10:27-28; 롬 8:25-29)

(2) The Bible excludes the deistic idea that God simply made the world and established it so that it can go automatically or another idea that he involves only when it goes wrong. 성경적인 섭리는 하나님의 역할이 단순히 창조만 하고 제멋대로 구르도록 버려두었다는 이론이나 문제가 생긴 경우에만 간섭한다는 이론을 배제한다.

(3) We can have confidence in the regularity of the created world. 하나님의 섭리하심을 믿기 때문에 우리는 우주만물이 일정한 규칙에 따라 움직인다고 확신할 수 있다.

Providence as Government ( 통치하시는 섭리 )

The Extent of God's governing activity 통치의 범위 The Extent of God's governing activity 통치의 범위 (1) God governs the nature and all the creation in it. 자연을 포함한 모든 피조물 (2) God governs the human history and the destiny of the nations. 인류역사와 국가들의 운명. (3) God is sovereign in the circumstances of the lives of individual persons. 만인의 삶과 여건.

(2) The Relationship Between God's Governing Activity and Sin 하나님의 통치와 죄의 문제 하나님이 통치하시는데 왜 죄가 있을 수 있는가 ? 그러나 하나님은 죄의 원인은 아니시다.

4 가지 명심할 사항 (1) God can prevent sin. 하나님은 범죄를 예방하실 수 있다. (2) God does not always prevent sin. 그러나 항상 범죄를 예방하지는 않으신다. (3) God can also direct sin in such a way that good comes out of sin. 하나님은 범죄의 문제마저도 합력하여 선을 이루실 수 있다. (4) God can limit sin. (ex. the case of Job) 하나님은 죄를 제한할 수 있다.

The Major Features of God's Governing Activity 하나님의 통치사역의 주요특성 7 가지

(1) God's governing activity is universal. 하나님은 우주에 일어나는 모든 일에 대하여 통치하신다. (2) God's providence does not extend merely to his own people. 하나님의 섭리는 하나님의 백성들에 대해서만 적용되는 것이 아니다. (3) God is good in his government. 하나님은 그 통치에 있어서 선하시다. (4) God is personally concerned about those who are his. 하나님은 하나님의 백성들에 대하여 개인적으로 관여하신다.

(5) Our activity and the divine activity are not mutually exclusive. 우리의 행위와 하나님의 행위는 상호간에 배제하지 않는다. 하나님은 우리를 사용하셔서 그 뜻을 이루실 수 있다. (6) God is sovereign in his government. 하나님은 그 통치에 있어서 절대 주권을 가지고 계시다. (7) We need to be careful as to what we identify as God's providence. 우리는 어떤 일을 하나님의 섭리라고 규정짓는 것에 조심할 필요가 있다. ( 히틀러의 결정을 하나님의 뜻으로 규정했던 1934 년 기독교인들의 결정 )

Providence and Prayer ( 섭리하심과 기도 ) 하나님이 모든 것을 알아서 주관하고 계신다면 구태여 기도할 필요가 있는가 ?

양면성 (1) Scripture teaches that God's plan is definite and fixed. It is not subject to revision. 성경은 하나님의 계획은 확고하게 정해진 것임을 가르친다. 이는 수정을 필요로 하지 않는다. (2) We are commanded to pray and taught that prayer has value. (James 5:16) 우리는 기도할 것을 명령받았으며, 기도는 매우 할 가치가 있는 것임을 배운다.

Why do we have to pray? 그러면 왜 기도해야 하는가 ?

하나님은 우리와 동역하기를 원하시기 때문이다. God works in a sort of partnership with humans. God does not act if they do not play their part. 하나님의 일은 사람과 같이 하는 일종의 동역이다. 따라서 때때로 사람이 자기 역할을 하지 않으면 하나님도 일하시지 않는다 ( 막 6:4-6). 하나님의 형상으로 창조하신 이유 중 하나.

기도 자체가 섭리안에 포함되어 있다. God wills his action to be brought about in part by willing that those in need should bring their petitions to him. Prayer is the means by which God accomplishes his plans. 하나님은 때에 따라 필요한 사람이 하나님께 기도하게 함으로 그 뜻을 이루어 가신다. 기도는 하나님이 자신의 계획을 이루어 가시는 수단이다.

Providence and Miracles 하나님의 섭리하심과 기적

Definition of Miracle 기적의 정의 Miracles are the special supernatural works of God's providence which are not explicable on the basis of the usual patterns of nature. 기적은 자연의 일상 법칙의 근거로는 설명할 수 없는 초자연적인 특별한 하나님의 섭리이다.

Three views of the relationship between miracles and natural laws 기적과 자연법의 관계 : 3 가지 견해

(1) Miracles are actually the manifestations of little known or virtually unknown natural laws. 기적은 잘 알려지지 않았거나 실상을 모르는 자연법칙이 나타난 것이다. 결국 기적은 없다라는 주장이다. (2) Miracles break the laws of nature. 기적은 자연법칙을 깨는 것이다. (3) When miracles occur, natural forces are countered by supernatural force. 초자연적인 힘이 자연적인 힘을 거스를 때에 기적이 일어난다.

The purposes of miracles 기적의 3 가지 목적 (1) to glorify God 하나님의 영광을 위하여 (2) to establish the supernatural basis of the revelation which often accompanied them 기적이 나오는 계시의 초자연적인 근거를 세워 주기 위하여 (3) to meet human needs. 인간의 필요를 채워 주기 위하여
