Class Structure This class is designed for students with an intermediate-advanced level of English 이 수업은 중급-고급 영어 레벨의 수준으로 진행됩니다. Business English (3044) Media English (2035) EGC 1 & 2 (생활영어)

Areas of Improvement English speaking (related to business – job interviews, vocabulary, idioms, expressions) – so come to class ready to speak!!! English listening (teacher, partners, clips) English writing (cover letters, resumes, homework and assignments) English reading (homework) Knowledge about western business culture

Topics Some topics include: job interview skills, job seeking strategies applications cover letters resumes speaking skills (interview) workplace vocabulary advertising branding ethics bargaining and trading high & low context culture smart consumer practices globalization

Attendance / Participation (10%) Class attendance is mandatory (except for the first and second week of classes). 수업 출석은 필수 평가 항목입니다. (수강 정정기간이 포함된 첫째 주와 둘째 주는 예외로 합니다.) Attendance is mandatory so that students participate in class. If you are not here, you cannot participate and therefore your mark will be lower. 수업에 오지 않는 학생들은 수업에 참여할 수 없으며, 수업에 참여하지 않는 학생들은 좋은 학점을 받기 어려울 수 있습니다.

Attendance/Participation (10%) For each class absent the student will get -1%; if you have an excuse you have 2 weeks to give the professor an excuse note. 수업 결석 시 출석 평가 항목에서 1점씩 삭감되며, ‘결강사유서’는 늦어도 2주 이내에 제출하셔야 합니다. 결석일 이후 2주 이후에 제출된 결강사유서 인정 불가. It is the student’s responsibility to give the excuse note to the professor within 2 weeks of their absence. 결강사유서 제출은 본인 책임이므로, 제출되지 않거나 제출 시기를 놓치는 경우 교수는 어떠한 책임도 지지 않습니다.

Attendance/Participation (10%) Students who often come late to class will also have a lower mark. If you are over 10 minutes late (-0.5%) If you are absent for half the class, that will count as an absent (-1%) If your previous class is far away, please inform the teacher. 거리가 먼 곳에서 전 강좌를 수강하여 어쩔 수 없이 수업 참석이 늦어지는 경우, 사전에 미리 교수에게 안내해주기 바랍니다.

Attendance (10%) CNU Policy: If a student is absent for over 25% (11 hours or 7 classes) of the class time, the student will receive an automatic fail (F grade).

Assignments (35%) There are 3 written assignments There is 1 speaking assignment 5% - Cover letter 5% - Resume 5% - Homework (2nd semester) 20% - Group presentation (2nd semester) More information on the assignments will be available in the next few weeks.

Exams- 55% Midterm Exam (25%) Tuesday, April 17th – class time Final Exam (30%) Tuesday, June 18th – class time Both exams are written Format: short answers, long answers, definitions, vocabulary, practical application These dates are subject to change based on Chonnam National University scheduling.

상대평가 Exchange students, transfer students and graduate school students are not marked according to the 상대평가 system. If you are an exchange, transfer or graduate school student, you will be marked according to your final score. 교환학생과 대학원생들에게는 상대평가가 적용되지 않습니다.

The difference between an A and a B could be 1% (or less) Why did 김봉자 get an B but 노승현 get a C+?

Class Rules Come to class on time. If your previous class is far away from this class, please tell me. If you are consistently late, your participation mark will be low. (1) 지각하지 않고 정시에 수업에 출석해 주기 바랍니다. (2) 거리가 먼 곳에서 전 강좌를 수강하고 이 수업에 참석하여 정시에 출석이 불가능한 경우, 미리 교수에게 알려주기 바랍니다. (3) 지속적으로 지각하는 경우, 학점에 영향을 미칠 수 있습니다. Please put your phone on manner mode while in class. Try to refrain from using your phone (text messaging) while in class. This may negatively affect your participation mark. (4) 수업을 수강하는 동안 휴대폰은 매너모드로 바꾸고 가급적 휴대폰 사용을 자제하도록 합니다.

Class Rules There is no textbook for this class; the teacher will provide the class with handouts. I recommend buying a folder to organize your notes. 이 수업에 별도의 교재는 없으며, 교수의 유인물이 제공됩니다. If you are falling behind in class and cannot keep up please tell me as soon as possible. Please don’t tell me during the final weeks of class that you are having problems, come talk to me at the soonest possible time. 수업내용을 이해하기 어렵거나 따라오기 힘든 경우, 미리 이야기 하여 양해를 구하기 바랍니다.
