3 Linking verbs A linking verb is a verb that connects the subject to the complement. They are sometimes called copula or copula verbs. A linking verb implies state of being or condition for the subject, not action.

4 Usage. 2 형식 동사는 동사가 나타내는 의미 자체가 크게 중요한 것은 아니다. 행위를 나타내지 않고 주어와 서술부분을 연결시켜주는 역할을 하므로 서술, 설명을 도와주는 역할밖에 하지 못한 다. 어떤 사물의 상태를 묘사할 때 가장 많이 쓰이는 유형 ->This soup smells good. 즉, 주어 +linking verb+ 형용사 ( 보어 )

5 보어에는 noun, adjective (or pronoun) 가 올 수 있 고, 부사는 보어가 될 수 없다. He looks happily.(X) He looks happy.(0) ( 동사 뒤에 오는 형용사는 주어를 서술해 주는 것이지 동사 를 꾸며주는 것이 아니기 때문에 부사가 오지 않는다.) ≪ He lived happily.(0) ≫

6 Common linking verbs be, appear, become, feel, seem, smell, taste, sound, remain,stay, get, grow, prove…… ( 이러한 동사가 항상 linking verb 로 사용되 는 것은 아니다.) Ex) He looked careful.(linking verb) He looks at the book.(action verb)

7 Examples 1.I am a happy person. 2.My neighbor's singing voice sounds very squeaky despite several hours of daily practice. 3.Before the show, Jenny seemed nervous. 4.The classroom got quiet when the professor entered. 5.the sky grew dark as the storm approached. 6.I felt sad when I heard the news. 7.After drinking the old milk,Rachel turned green.

8 Action verbs 행위동사를 통해서 주어가 무엇을 하는 지가 표현된다. 무엇인가 발생한다는 의미를 진술할 때, I'm cleaning the room. He put the books in the box. 행위동사는 단순 또는 진행형 시제를 쓸 수 있다. He put / He was putting everything away. Examples of Action verbs: jump, catch, run, skip, fly, walk, laugh, cry, etc.

9 Action verbs & Linking verbs 동사는 행동이나 행위를 표시하거나 사실진술을 도와주는 역할을 하며 행위동사 (action verb) 와 연결동사 (Linking verb) 로 나뉜다. The ice cream tasted good. ↓ ↓ ↓ subject linking verb subjective complement He tasted the ice cream. ↓ ↓ ↓ subject action verb object

10 incomplete intransitive verb & complete transitive verb 불완전 자동사 (incomplete intransitive verb) 2 형식 문형 S + V ( 불완전 자동사 ) + C : [- 은 ~ 이다 ( 된다 ).] 동사만으로는 완전한 표현이 불가능하므로, 보어를 필요로 하는 동사이다. 불완전자동사는 be 동사로 바꾸어도 뜻이 통한다. Sugar tastes sweet. ( 설탕은 단맛이 난다.) Sugar is sweet. ( 설탕은 달다.) Be 동사가 [ 있다 ]( 존재 ) 로 해석되면 완전자동사이고, (~ 이다 ) 로 해석되면 불완전자동사이 다. 완전타동사 : (complete transitive verb) 3 형식 문형 S + V ( 완전타동사 ) + O (S ≠ O) :[- 이 ~ 을 한다.] 완전타동사는 목적어 하나를 필요로 한다. 동작을 받는 목적어가 필요하며, 목적어만으로 표현이 가능한 동사이다. S+V 다음에 형용사에 해당하는 어구가 오면 2 형식 문장이 된다. 만일 S+V 다음에 명사 가 오는 경우는, 그 명사가 주어와 동격 관계가 성립되면 2 형식이며, 성립되지 않으면, 목적어로서 3 형식이 된다.
