An Alternative Approach to Materials for teaching Reading.
Questions How can materials writers help L2 learners to tackle language problems in reading materials? How can materials writers help L2 learners to have higher self-esteem and start enjoying reading fluently?
Principle 1: Engaging Affect should be the prime concern of reading materials. Interesting topics Problems in L2 for finding cognitively and linguistically balanced texts for the readers.
Principle 2: Listening to a Text before reading it helps decrease linguistic demands and encourages learners to focus on meaning.
Principle 3: Reading comprehension Means Achieving Multidimensional Mental Representation in the Reader’s Mind Experienced images Imagined the environment and had vague sensations (e.g. smell, dust, sound) Felt some sort of emotion Remembered some personal experience from your past Thought about what you have read, heard, seen about refugees in Africa Evaluated the skills of the poet.
Principle 4: Materials should help learners experience the text first before they draw their attention to its language

The language based approach to reading pedagogy seems to hypothesize an Equation between General syntactic ability outside a discourse context (grammar test) and the ability to disambiguate syntactical patterns during reading
